Dr Imtiaz Sooliman is the founder of Gift of the Givers an International NPO from South africa that assist relief situations around the world.
He attended Sastri College in Durban and matriculated in 1978, going on to study medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Medical School, qualifying as a medical doctor in 1984.
Dr Sooliman commenced private practice in Pietermaritzburg in 1986, but chose to close his flourishing practice in mid-1994, choosing instead to focus his attention on Gift of the Givers Foundation, which he had founded in early August 1992.
His establishment of Gift of the Givers Foundation was the consequence of a message Dr Sooliman, then aged 30, received from Sufi Sheikh Muhammed Saffer Effendi al Jerrahi, his spiritual leader in Istanbul, Turkey, who called on him to serve all people of all races, of all religions, of all colours, of all classes, of all political affiliations and of any geographical location... a calling he honoured then and continues to honour today.
His endeavour in this regard has seen Gift of the Givers Foundation emerge as one of the most respected humanitarian organisations in the world and is today the largest disaster response agency of African origin anywhere on the continent.
Since 1992, Dr Sooliman has steered the organisation to many Notable Achievements and World Firsts, including:
Humanitarian Inspiration
Humanitarian Aid for disaster areas across the globe

Thank you for taking the time out of what we know is a very busy schedule, especially given your daughter was in hospital – I hope she is recovering well.
Your talk was inspiring. The feedback we received on the day, and subsequently, tells it all – team members were amazed to have you talk to them (we hadn’t told them in advance), it touched on many of us emotionally and really makes each of us think about what we are doing, how are we making a difference in this world when we see what can be done. It is hugely positive to hear, especially in light of the challenges of Covid and the recent civil unrest and political issues in South Africa. Overall, I think you touched the hearts of more than 200 people, and it can only have had a positive impact in nudging all of us forward in doing more to think about others, help others, and take action. I hope it has also raised awareness of Gift of the Givers and will lead to more financial contributions to help sustain the incredible work you and your team do.
Thank you again.
Best,
David Baldry
