Speaker Bio

John Foley "Gucci" is a former lead solo pilot of the Blue Angels, a Sloan Fellow at Stanford School of Business, a top-rated leadership keynote speaker, gratitude guru and expert in the “how” of high-performance teams.

His exciting, rare journey inspires awe, triggering keynote audiences to take action and rethink what they believe is possible.

John has spoken to some of the Highest Performing organizations such as, Microsoft, Hitachi, Intel, Cisco, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Goodyear, Chevron, Lowe’s, Marriott, Wyndham Hotels, Hilton, Penske Racing, Rawlings, LA Kings, Sprint, Motorola, Merrill Lynch, Mass Mutual, Capital Group, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, GE Capital, American Hospital Association, Merck, Sunovion, Reach Air, Adecco, Gillette, McDonalds, and Million Dollar Round Table.

John’s presentations provide a contagious attitude of thankfulness that he calls Glad To Be Here®. His energizing delivery inspires high performance through a focus on a purpose larger than self. John shares the Blue Angels’ practical model for living out his message that works in organizations outside the elite flight squadron.

John consistently performed in an extreme, high-stakes environment, flying at speeds of more than 500 miles per hour and in formations as close as 18 inches. To survive those circumstances, he relied on a culture of high trust and leadership that turned inherently unforgiving flights into extraordinary experiences. He employs those intense realities as a metaphor to motivate teams to reach for their highest potential and empower organizations to sustain excellence under dynamic change.

John’s post-Naval experiences as an entrepreneur and a Sloan Fellow at the Stanford Graduate School of Business put him in a unique position to reverse-engineer the culture of excellence and teamwork found in the Blue Angels. He has created a framework and a methodology that inspires greatness while propelling others on their own journey to high performance.

John graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a defensive back for the Midshipmen, playing in two bowl games and helping Navy to one of the best four-year records in football history. As a pilot, John was a “Top Ten Carrier Pilot” six times before becoming a Marine instructor pilot and a Blue Angel. He holds master’s degrees in business management, from the Stanford Graduate School of Business (as a Sloan Fellow); in international policy studies, from Stanford University; and in strategic studies, from the Naval War College.

In 2011 John founded the Glad To Be Here® Foundation. John donates 10% of his net speaking fees to charities through the foundation, working with every client to donate 5% to charities of their choosing. Through the Foundation, more than 100 global charities have received $2M in donations. It’s part of John’s mission to connect a shared “purpose larger than self” with every organization.

John Foley has been recognized as one of the top 10 most in demand speakers and trainers in the world.

From performance to leadership to teamwork and trust, his performances are an experience that will inspire everyone to perform at a level higher than they previously thought possible.

    ================================================================
    We were extremely fortunate at Humber River Hospital to hear John Foley present this year. I had previously heard Mr. Foley delivering his practical and inspiring messages about high performance, living up to one’s potential, and motivating the people around you to excel. I wanted my leadership team to hear from him as well. He certainly met all my expectations.

    Mr. Foley spoke about building a culture of excellence, and an environment of trust. About building a safe place where leaders, staff and physicians can own, and learn from, their mistakes. He spoke in ways that made sense to everyone about how our organization can elevate high reliability to an entirely new level.

    I believe everyone who heard that talk left feeling engaged, inspired and committed. I strongly recommend you create an opportunity to hear John Foley speak.

    I believe John’s Diamond Performance Framework (Belief, Brief, Trust, and Debrief), will allow Innovu to become a more cohesive family! I choose to use the word family over the team because I believe it more accurately represents our culture at Innovu. I think our family members have many High-Trust Contracts with each other on many individual and team levels. I’m very excited to see them both grow and flourish further.

    As you know I wasn’t able to attend the training in-person, however, I did participate in my own way. I wore my Glad To Be Here shirt to the hospital and wore it post-surgery. I probably shouldn’t admit this, but the message, “Glad to be here with everyone”, I posted in the Town Square chat in Mattermost was posted while I was in the short-stay unit at the hospital, merely hours after surgery; still groggy. I believe I might have a selfie of me wearing the shirt at the hospital.

    I wanted to share why I’m Glad To Be Here. Since I have started at Innovu, it was very evident that everyone cared about each other (with a few outliers of-course; and those outliers are no longer part of the family). It’s the family attitude and culture that makes me Glad to be Here at Innovu with everyone! I had a conversation with Mark over text messaging the other day about how humbled I was by the support and outreach everyone sent my way post-surgery. The support I received showcases how much our family members care about us not just on a professional level but on a very personal level. I wouldn’t want to be doing this with any other group of people.

    I’m looking forward to our continued success in 2021!

    Glad to be here!
