What does success mean to Mark Pilgrim? Has your definition of it changed over the years and if so, why? | ACHIEVING MY GOALS. THE IMPORTANT ELEMENT IS THAT IT’S MY GOALS, NOT ANYBODY ELSES.
I DON’T COMPARE MYSELF TO SOMEONE ELSE WHEN LOOKING AT MY ACHIEVEMENTS, AS I HAVE ENOUGH BELIEF IN MYSELF TO SIMPLY COMPARE ME WITH ME.
What is your LIFE-MISSION in one sentence? | HAPPINESS. WITHIN MYSELF AND INFECTIOUSLY ONTO OTHERS. I EVEN HAVE THE WORD TATTOOED ON MY WRIST.
What do you think is often the difference between people who are good at what they do and people who are great at what they do? | DO YOU FOCUS YOUR EFFORTS “AWAY FROM FEAR OF FAILURE” OR “TOWARDS ACHIEVING SUCCESS”?
TO BE GREAT AT WHAT YOU DO, YOU HAVE TO BE WILLING TO TAKE A KNOCK ON THE CHIN ALONG THE WAY AND TREAT IT AS A LEARNING CURVE AS YOUR FOCUS IS ALWAYS LOOKING AND MOVING FORWARD.
What is one talent or strength of yours, which has been critical to your success? | AUTHENCITY. HOW I AM ON AIR IS THE SAME AS THE WAY I AM OFF AIR.
I’M JUST BEING MYSELF AND HOPE THAT’S WHAT PEOPLE ENJOY LISTENING TO. IT’S ABOUT SAYING EVERYDAY “I’M ENOUGH”.
What are the most important lessons you have learnt so far, in your career or life journey? | NOBODY LIKES AN ARSEHOLE. YOU CAN BE AT THE TOP OF YOUR GAME IN WHATEVER FIELD YOU’RE IN, BUT IF YOU’RE AN ASS, PEOPLE TEND TO WANT TO GRAVITATE AWAY FROM YOU. BE KIND.
How do you ensure you are always feeling energised and performing at your peak? | I ENERGISE MYSELF MYSELF BY KNOWING IT’S OKAY TO HAVE AN “OFF DAY” WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL AS ENERGISED.
I’M NOT HARD ON MYSELF. THIS PHILOSPOPHY COMES FROM WHEN I WAS UNDERGOING CHEMOTHERAPY. PEOPLE WANTED ME TO BE STRONG ALL THE TIME, WHEREAS I GOT THROUGH IT BY HAVING THE ODD DAY WHEN I FELT SORRY FOR MYSELF… WHICH MEANT THE NEXT DAY THERE WAS NO EXCUSE AND I HAD TO FIGHT.
What’s one deeply honest thing that most people don’t know about you? | DESPITE BEING ON TV, RADIO AND ON STAGE FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS, I’M ACTUALLY AN INTROVERT. I’M BY NO MEANS SHY, I JUST FIND MY ENERGY FORM WITHIN WITHOUT NEEDING EXTERNAL VALIDATION OR COMPANY.
Would you consider yourself a happy person? If so, how do you cultivate your daily happiness? | I AM A HAPPY PERSON. I CULTIVATE IT BY USING THE WORD “HAPPINESS’ IN MY DAILY LEXICON AND ALSO KNOWING THE PAST IS JUST A MEMORY, IT’S WHAT I DO NOW AND MY ATTITUDE NOW THAT DEFINES MY DAY.
