Speaker Bio

Nicky Verd lives to shake crowded tables and blow stuff up. A show-stopping source of inspiration and a voice for those who yearn to recreate themselves and discover new opportunities in a digital era.

She is an International Keynote Speaker, MC Extraordinaire, Podcast Host and Author of the hit book, Disrupt Yourself Or Be Disrupted. Nicky Verd is a leading thinker on driving innovation through personal disruption. Nicky is Africa's most sought after Speaker on all things Tech, Disruption, Innovation, Future of Work, 4IR and Digital Transformation.

After being retrenched from a job she held to for dear life, Nicky Verd hit rock bottom, literally. But rose back up, upskilled/reinvented herself and is now empowering others to do the same. From living on food parcels and contemplating suicide to being recognised by Thinkers360 as one of the Top 50 Global Thought Leaders and Influencers on Digital Disruption and the Future of Work 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Nicky Lives in Johannesburg, South Africa and is particularly passionate about disrupting the status quo and igniting human potential in the age of Artificial Intelligence(AI). Her book bridges the gap between lay people and the understanding of how emerging technologies are impacting the workplace and life in general.

Nicky Verd's book, titled "DISRUPT YOURSELF OR BE DISRUPTED is about empowering young people across Africa not to fight technology but to embrace it and become part of the revolution. The Fourth Industrial Revolution(4IR) is creating a demand for new skills and competencies and "Disrupt Yourself Or Be Disrupted" is a tool to equip and empower yourself for this shift in paradigm.

After being retrenched from a job she held unto for dear life, and crying herself to sleep for months, Nicky Verd started to get that uncomfortable feeling in the pit of her stomach, the kind of nagging feeling that yelled “You are better than this – there is more in you!”

Her quest led to a completely new world. Her curiosity led her to the discovery of emerging technologies and how they are playing a major role in job displacement and redundancy. Having no University Degree or background in IT, Nicky Verd armed herself with nothing but curiosity as she embarked on a journey to understand the holistic nature of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and is now dedicated to empowering people to understand how disruptive technologies are impacting the workplace, as well as youths/students to rise above their circumstances, disrupt the status quo, embrace 4IR, upskill themselves and become part of the revolution.

However, Nicky Verd is no stranger to struggles, she has experienced deep pain, loneliness, betrayal, rejection, poverty, abuse, heartbreak and shame. She dug deep into her shadow to overcome her struggles and a crippling low self-esteem and now dedicated to inspiring others to do the same. She is not confused by her mandate and her calling is clear as crystal – To ignite human potential in the age of Artificial Intelligence and exponential technologies...

Nicky Verd hails from Cameroon and has been living in South Africa for over a decade. As a Digital Transformation Maverick, International Keynote Speaker, Fourth Industrial Revolution(4IR) advocate and Digital Strategy Consuntant, Nicky Verd inspires young people to become their own heroes, to become disruptive and resourceful by embracing technology, creativity, latent talents, passion, purpose and ultimately discovering their unique soul-print to break free from social conditioning that creates mediocrity, self-loathing and self-rejection.

Her book, articles and keynote speeches have been called transformational and disruptive because they produce results that remain long after she has left the podium! She is indeed Africa's Digital Transformation Maverick.

It goes without saying, "You cannot fight a battle you don't even understand."

Just like a frog in a jar of water, if we heat them all at once, the frog will notice the change and jump off. However, if we boil it slowly, the frog will not feel the gradual change, and will stay in the water, until its very demise. This book is a great way to make sure we are the former frog, and not the latter. This is great book which is spot-on especially during these times of COVID19 crisis, which is when is review is written. I met Nicky when I traveled to South Africa, to speak about the new world of work and how I believe individuals should think like “business units” in order to survive and thrive in this new environment. Nicky and I clicked immediately, and our thoughts very much resonated with each other. So, obviously I agree with much of what this book has to offer us, as a state of- mind and as practical advice. Back to that first frog, this book is also great in showing that jumping off the water is not just an act to survive, but also opportunity to thrive. Thank you Nicky for your help in pushing the message forward.

“A very comprehensive overview on how technology is disrupting the world as we know it today. The picture created looks bleak (rightfully so) and there’s an innate sense of urgency as to why we should disrupt ourselves.”

Nicky is a prolific speaker with a soft but powerful voice. She knows her story and she is just as powerful and magnificent at sharing it with her audience, one word from her and you wouldn’t want her to leave the stage. It was an honor to listen to her as she delivered her speech at the EBN Seminar and I was blown away.
