Bev du Toit
Adventure into Conscious Living
For as long as Bev du Toit can remember, she has wanted to know what makes people do what they do, why they think what they think, and why they react to situations, in the way that they do. Her search for understanding has led to even more questions: Why am I here? What is the point of everything? And for me, the most profound question… Who am I? The material in her talks and workshops has been gathered over time. Bev du Toit has studied many philosophies and even more ‘how-to’ ideas from many different people. Through trial and error, the application of the information learned, and a willingness to explore what lies within and beyond the mind and emotion, Bev has come to a point where she feels good about myself, where she knows she will have a place in this universe, and where she am so grateful to be able to share with others what she has learnt on her journey. Bev had the transformative experience of connecting with her ‘Inner Consciousness/Being’ and she is grateful to be able to share the beautiful insights she has gained from this experience. She believes the inner journey is far more significant than any outer journey that can be taken. Being physical is a miraculous state that offers so many opportunities for growth, joy and change. Bev guides others to recognise, understand and direct the impact of their emotions, intellect and identity on their life experience. Bev is grateful for every experience that she has been through (the ‘good’, the ‘bad’ and even the ‘ugly’), because every single experience has brought her to the point where she is right now and as she says “There is no better place to be”. She believes that hidden within each of us is the ability to create the lives we are looking for: the happiness, the peace, the relationships, the success and the joy. When we focus inwards, instead of outwards, we give ourselves the possibility of finding the answers we are looking for. Through making new choices – we craft our lives. Bev’s talks and workshops are based on personal experience. Her search for her own happiness and self-realisation has resulted in the accumulation and assimilation of knowledge from a wide range of philosophies, and she looks forward to sharing this knowledge and continuing to learn with others. Bev’s key-note talks and workshops on happiness, resilience and sustainable positive attitudes, offers practical tools that can create positive change in people. Her work with dying patients has given her unique insight into what really matters in life. As an industrial theatre producer, workshop facilitator and speaker she has connected with audiences of all age groups. Bev’s industrial theatre production have played to thousands of South African children, giving the country’s youth valuable tools with which to overcome fears and face their future. Bev was diagnosed with a Stage 3 ovarian cancer in 1996, after undergoing surgery and treatment she went into remission in 1997. Bev co-developed the Cancer Coping Kit (English, Sotho, Zulu and Afrikaans), in conjunction with The Cancer Association of South Africa, which assists newly diagnosed patients and their families in coping with their illness. She received The Mariette Loots Cancer Winner Merit Award, for her Cancer Coping Kit. The annual Award is given to an individual to acknowledge their commitment and outstanding achievement, in positively promoting the quality of life for all cancer sufferers. Bev has facilitated many support groups across South Africa, assisting newly diagnosed patients and their families to live positively with cancer. She is based in Johannesburg and travels locally and internationally offering talks and workshops. Bev has made numerous television and radio appearances, and corporate visits, and has been interviewed extensively in the print media. She shares her life with Leo, who keeps her sane and her dog Shadow, who lavish her with love. Talks available

The Art of Happiness

The Value of an Attitude

The Power of Resilience

Live Alive

Celebrate Life

Conversations about Death and Dying

The Art of Happiness The Art of Happiness talk challenges the perception that our happiness depends on circumstances and influences outside of ourselves. Bev introduces tools and techniques that will enable participants to start the process of creating happiness, instead of searching for it! The Value of an Attitude When Bev was going through cancer she was often told to “just have a positive attitude”, but what does that really mean, how is it quantified and does it really matter? Bev shares her knowledge gained from her expedition into understanding attitude…..where it comes from, how it influences our lives and most importantly, how to consciously create it. The Strength of Resilience Being able to bounce back, move with the flow and maintain an even keel when life gets rough, is a skill that can be learned by anyone. This talk unpacks the various elements that create resilience and Bev shares tools and techniques for participants to start moving the locus of control towards inner balance and strength. Live Alive Bev’s journey through cancer has created within her a passion and zest for life. In Live Alive! she shares the life enhancing lessons she gained on her journey. This heart-warming, fun talk is full of humour and life insights, giving participants a plethora of easy to apply techniques to LIVE ALIVE! Celebrate Life Bev developed this talk for cancer patients, their families and supporters. She regularly shares this information at support groups across Johannesburg. She has recently started giving this talk at corporates, in response to a need in the workplace to understand cancer, its emotional impact and social stigma. Celebrating Life is an uplifting and connecting talk that gives participants a glimpse into cancer, from both the perspective of the patient and the supporter and offers tools to both, to better cope with the impact of this experience. Target Audience: Cancer patients, family members, caregivers. Corporates – to provide information on coping with cancer. Conversations About Death and Dying Bev has had the privilege of sharing time with family members and cancer patients leading up to and at the time of their dying. Her initial fear of the process was quickly replaced with a reverence and acceptance of this natural and inevitable part of all our lives. Bev has experienced first-hand, that if a willingness exists to talk about this often taboo subject, those who are dying and those who will be left behind are offered an opportunity to experience death in a more profound and powerful way. Closure is reached more easily and much of the fear and unanswered questions are addressed. Target Audience: Any one working in a field where they are in dealing with people who are ill or aging.
