Me and Mr Green
Party Cover Band
Me and Mr Green is the brainchild of Dan Green who, after nine years of leading the successful Me and Mr Brown decided that a change and a freshen up was required to once more take the party circuit by storm. Me and Mr Green bring the very best party music from previous decades right through to the present day and never fail to create an amazing atmosphere at your event. With over 700 weddings and countless corporates, festivals and birthdays under his belt, Dan has teamed up with Jeandre – an incredible guitarist and a massive bundle of energy, to create the perfect team. Me and Mr Green are guaranteed to get the party started and keep it there! DANIEL GREEN Hailing from London, Daniel took the plunge and moved down to South Africa in April 2007 and loved it so much that he decided to stay! Dan has music in his blood. His younger brother Jon is a major song writer based out of Nashville and London, writing hits for a load of major artists including Linkin Park, Lady Antebellum and James Bay. Having been trained on the drums since the age of seven, Daniel has been playing in bands as long as he can remember, performing all over his native London as well as accumulating a whole host of recording experiences in some of the country’s finest studios including Abbey road and Air Studios. Having graduated with a History degree from University, Dan went into the travel industry where he remained for over a decade before moving south. He began strumming his guitar again for fun once settled in South Africa, commencing a journey which now sees him as one half of one of South Africa’s best Live party cover bands. Daniel is an avid Arsenal fan, a lover of fine wine and food and lives in Noordhoek with his wife Lindi and their three children Charlie, Daisy and Liv as well as their two dogs, two tortoises and two pigs! JEANDRE SCHULTZ Jeandre hails from South Africa’s Northern Cape pioneer town of Kimberley. Having grown up on a farm, Jeandre was a keen sportsman but an injury led him to take a keener interest in music, first starting out behind the drum kit. Then, an epiphany occurred- having watched Mark Knopfler’s ‘One Night in Rome’, he swore then and there that he was going to master the guitar. Having matriculated from school in Kimberley, Jeandre followed his passion to Cape Town where he studied guitar. Jeandre is now one of the best young guitarists in South Africa with an impressive CV performing shows (including Arena tours) with virtually all of South Africa’s top artists including Karen Zoid and Francois Van Coke. Jeandre’s on-stage energy is infectious. As well as performing with Me and Mr Green, Jeandre sells top-end guitars at Music Experience in Cape Town and in his down time loves nothing more than a solid game of FIFA on the Playstation where he claims to be at least in the top 100 players in the country! Have a look a at just some of the songs that could be incorporated into a ME & Mr Green set! In a significant boost for the domestic music industry, Universal Music South Africa has acquired this…
In a significant boost for the domestic music industry, Universal Music South Africa has acquired this longstanding independent talent booking agency, G Management. Formed in 2017, under the guidance of several of the country’s top booking agents and record label executives, UMG Live is rapidly positioning itself as one of South Africa’s leading entertainment facilitation companies. This new division of Universal Music is based in Johannesburg and will serve as the touring and live facility for all artists currently in a 360 deal with the record company. However, in keeping with G Management’s historic, wide-ranging offerings. UMG Live will also service many different artists outside Universal Music. This currently includes many of South Africa’s most talented and active artists including Swing City, The Muses, and Okmalumkoolat. In 2016, UMG Live acquired the exclusive booking agency rights for the talent signed to The Voice SA, adding another exciting element to its offerings. UMG LIve has tapped Morgan Ross, director at G Management, to head up the newly-formed division. “I’m so grateful to be part of Universal’s worldwide family,” says Ross. “It’s exciting to see our existing artists flourish outside of South Africa’s borders with the backing of a major label, and to be working with those artists signed to Universal Music. I’ve been a huge fan of so many of these, and being able to work side-by-side with them is very rewarding. G Management has always been one of South Africa’s most active indie agencies and seeing it expand in this way is like seeing my child graduate from college.” “We are delighted to welcome G Management to the Universal Music family,” says Sipho Dlamini, Universal Music South Africa’s Managing Director. “In the changing environment in which we do business, it is important that we give our artists and business partners the best suite of offerings possible – and UMG Live will play a very important part in that.” “G Management has long had a reputation for excellence in artist management and the live arena,” adds Pino De Benedetto, director at Universal Music South Africa. “I can think of no better agency to team up with to create what, I believe, will become the country’s leading entertainment facilitation company.” As part of its business offering, UMG Live is also offering preferential rates for non-exclusive entertainers right across South Africa – confirming its commitment to representing, and working with, as broad a range of creative talent as possible. The agency already has a varied roster of genres, from rock to classical, hip hop to gospel, and is set-up to cater for an audience of one or a festival of thousands. One of UMG Live’s main service offerings is to corporate clients. The agency offers a one-stop-shop entertainment solution for blue-chip clients for year-end and company and other events. The most competitive rates for staging, lighting, PA, and backline from world-class technical suppliers are also part of UMG Live’s business mix. “We also offer business affairs and the procurement of international artists,” adds Ross. “In recent years we have worked closely with SAB Miller (Castle Lite) to bring out international acts DRAKE (2011) and WALE (2013).” Other blue-chip clients include BMW, Vodacom, MTN, Nedbank, Investec, Standard BANK, Edcon and many more. With sister companies based in Denmark and Lagos, UMG Live represents the pinnacle of entertainment in many different territories – all with the backing of parent company Universal Music.

Feel The Difference
Afro Pop, Kwaito, House Music, Afro-Soul
For 20 years Mafikizolo have been South Africa’s best Afro-pop export to the world. The duo of Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe has occupied the enviable position as cultural ambassadors due to the major inroads they have made on the African continent and beyond. They are not about to slow down as they continue to ride the crest of a wave. This summer they continue their domination as they mark the 20 year milestone with the highly anticipated release of their new album, aptly titled 20. Boasting 16 tracks, the release is a celebration album that is not focused on any specific genre, instead it’s a smorgasbord of sounds and influences indicative of a cosmopolitan and modern pop group. More significant are the collaborators and producers they turned to - a youthful breed of hip hop artists as well as some known names. For some youthful exuberance they brought in Kly who features on two songs, Gemini Major and Howard. Nokwazi Dlamini also lends her voice. They have managed to reinvent themselves over the years and this new approach is sure to pleasantly surprise the fans. Explains Theo: ‘We are pop artists, which means to be popular our sound needs to stay current and relevant. On 20 we are influenced by our travels in Africa and our producer DJ Maphorisa travels a lot and knows what’s current in the clubs and streets of Europe, America and Africa.’ The first single out of 20 is Love Potion a laid back scorcher which is inspired by Undenzantoni one of the songs they released in their 2004 album Six Mabone, which they believe didn’t get enough attention. The song has been spruced up and reinvented with a different sound, the music is also changed, they have added some English lyrics and the accent is new too. Nhlanhla shares: ‘We did this to capture our older audience. The song has a crossover appeal. As we celebrate 20 years we remind people of where we come from, the sound that moulded Mafikizolo.’ Ofananawe featuring Yemi Alade one of Nigerian’s biggest and talented female artists represents a cultural exchange between Nigeria and South Africa. It was produced by Masterkraft, also from Nigeria. US R&B singer Syleena Johnson also had some studio time with the duo after they met at a show in South Africa and her manager shared that she loved the group and would like to record with them. No time was wasted as the musicians got together in a few days and DJ Maphorisa created something magical with the Caribbean steelpan resulting in a thrilling calypso hit in which Johnson sings in Xhosa. On Don’t Go, they step out with Harmonize from Tanzania which sees the distinctive South African sound as inspired by the late Joe Mafela’s hit Congo, that they fuse with the East African aesthetic. Nhlanhla believes this is an effort to embrace different cultures on the continent. ‘We are trying to bridge the all these gaps. We believe that in the next three to four years African artists will be able to work on the continent and make money. We are following in the footsteps of Miriam Makeba. Gemini Major produced Best Thing featuring Kly which is inspired by Marvin Gaye’s iconic Let’s Get It On. It is an exciting love song in which they extol the beauty of a woman as they toy around with figures of speech. On Catching Feelings they collaborated with Zingah as they sing about the evolution of love as one wants more out of the relationship than what is served. Zimbabwe’s Jay Prayzah features on the Shona song Mazuva Wa Kanaka. Things go a tempo up on Yekumona featuring kwaito star Professor, legendary house DJ Ganyani and Nokwazi Dlamini, some of the artists Mafikizolo have wanted to work with and are now part of the celebrations of their landmark release. It would be incomplete for the band to mark their two decade journey without acknowledging those who have fallen along the way, specifically Tebogo Madingwane who was a third of the band before his death in 2000. The band reprises their hit song Sijaiva Njalo in his honour. ‘We went for a song which boasts Tebogo’s vocals strongly. We needed to remind our followers old and new that Mafikizolo was made up of three members originally,’ says Theo. ‘We are not losing our sound, we’re blending the sounds with different influences,’ says Nhlanhla. ‘Miriam Makeba was not boxed. Her sound changed with her travels and even spoke the language. We have also been pushing for unity and collaboration with African artists and this is finally happening,’ adds Theo. Mafikizolo continues to fly the South African flag in different Africa countries including Sudan, Zambia, DRC, Rwanda and Ethiopia. Their imagery and branding celebrates all things fabulous and vibrant about African cultures as they dabble in Herero headgear from Namibia and the pleated Tsonga skirt from South Africa. They are proudly African and better positioned than any other band to take African music to the world and unite the continent under their banner. Discography 1. Mafikizolo (1997) 2. Music Revolution (1998) 3. Gatecrashers (1999) 4. Sibongile (2001) 5. Kwela (2002 6. Van Toeka (2003) 7. Six Mabone (2004) 8. Reunited (2012) 9. 20 (2017)
